Level: Form I (K–3rd grades)
Instructor, Abby Leija-Cardenas, has two passions in life: language and art. A native speaker of both Spanish and English, Abby is trilingual in English, Spanish, and French. Additionally, she studied Latin and earned a minor in biblical languages to complement her degree in interdisciplinary studies from Houston Baptist University where she was a student in the Honors College. As a native Spanish speaker, Abby wishes to help her BHSC students enjoy the beauty of Spanish while learning a valuable life skill.
Using interactive and conversation-driven learning, this course will lay the foundation for learning to speak Spanish fluently. Students will enjoy a multi-sensory approach to learning as they sing, make art, converse, and maybe even try making authentic Mexican food. In order to gain mastery and grow toward fluency, students will be expected to complete some work outside of class each week such as playing Spanish games online, listening to Spanish songs and passages, and completing some light coursework.
This class will be offered if a minimum of six students is enrolled by June 26, 2020. Full tuition refunds will be made if the class is cancelled due to low enrollment.
Note: This class is for students in Kindergarten/1st grade. The 2nd-/3rd-grade Spanish class information can be found here.
