Miss Abby Leija-Cardenas
Instructor of Art and Languages
Abby’s two passions in life are language and art. A native speaker of both Spanish and English, Abby is trilingual in English, Spanish, and French. Additionally, she studied Latin and earned a minor in biblical languages to complement her degree in interdisciplinary studies from Houston Baptist University where she was a student in the Honors College. She recently put her language mastery to good use when she participated in a fellowship teaching English in Northern Israel. As a native Spanish speaker, she wishes to help her BHSC students enjoy the beauty of Spanish while learning a valuable life skill.
Abby is looking forward to beginning her MFA in Studio Art at Houston Baptist University this fall. As a devoted student of art, Abby hopes to inspire her art students with the marvelous beauty of Creation and the gift of creativity God gave mankind. She took twenty-seven units in a variety of art and design classes during her undergraduate studies in addition to now pursuing graduate work in the visual arts.
An explorer at heart, Abby seeks to make discoveries and inspire others to learn with her. She has three years of experience teaching and more than seven years of experience working with children. Abby attends West Houston Bible Church, and her life goals include traveling around the world, reading as many books in as many languages as she can, and mastering as many art mediums as time allows.
