Mr. Win Vahlkamp
Government & Economics Instructor
Mr. Alfred “Win” Vahlkamp graduated from LSU in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education. He taught middle and high school social studies in Houston-area school districts for several years before he changed careers to Information Technology where he has worked for the last twenty-three years. As a cloud solutions architect who trains both colleagues and customers, Mr. Vahlkamp still teaches every day, but it’s an older audience! He is looking forward to teaching Government & Economics with BHSC this coming school year.
Mr. Win Vahlkamp loves to read and usually has four to five books going at any given time. He is especially interested in theology and the practice of systems engineering. He is also an avid tabletop board and war gamer who enjoys painting miniatures for wargaming. Mr. Vahlkamp has practiced martial arts for years holding two fourth-degree black belts in two different schools of Japanese sword as well as a second-degree black belt in TaeKwonDo and a first-degree black belt in Shorin Ryu Karate.
Having an education background has proven very useful in Mr. Vahlkamp’s life. It’s taught him how to learn fast, how to think and reason, and it’s been quite useful to be able to teach others how to learn. Win regularly teaches at St. Laurence for RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults—the class adults take to prepare to become Catholic), and catechetical classes offered through the church. He and Erinn are Altar Server Coordinators as well, which requires teaching the new altar servers the liturgy and how to serve. The Vahlkamps also lead a small group oriented to families to deepen their marriage and family life through Jesus. Win is very excited at the opportunity to teach high school again!
