Mr. Sean Pope
Instructor of History, Geography, and Intro. to Inklings
Sean Pope was born and raised in Klein, Texas. His parents, a Baptist pastor and the church pianist, filled their family’s home with old-time religion and music—two formative threads that he still seeks to honor in his own home.
Sean studied religion and literature at Baylor University where he was introduced to the writings of Flannery O’Connor, Walker Percy, and Thomas Merton. Most importantly, he was introduced to his future wife and all-time best friend, Rachel, at Baylor. After moving to the Houston area, he finished a Bachelor of Arts at Houston Baptist University with a major in English and minor in writing.
Sean lives in Spring with his wife, son, and daughter. They are members of St. Anthony the Great Orthodox Church, where Sean is the Junior High Sunday school teacher and is learning how to chant in the Byzantine tradition.
Sean has taught Ancient Literature & History, Aristotelian logic, and aesthetics. He plays many musical instruments with great mediocrity, sings made-up jingles incessantly to his family, enjoys writing poems, and hopes to finally get that great American novel finished. His favorite writers include Dante, G. M. Hopkins, Kierkegaard, Dostoevsky, Sergei Bulgokov, T. S. Eliot, Faulkner, Flannery O’Connor, Walker Percy, and Seamus Heaney.
