In this course, upper-level high school students will continue their studies of citizenship by learning the fundamentals of American Government and Economics. Bluebonnet students who have studied Plutarch, History, and various literary and historical works in Socratic Discussion will make connections with their previous knowledge as they see how the great ideas of the past have influenced the structure and function of the three branches of the U.S. Government.
Materials:
For Economics in the fall, families should purchase the following supplies which students must bring and have ready to use at each class session:
- One 3-ring binder + lined paper
- Pens and/or Pencils (your preference) and erasers in a pencil pouch.
- Sowell, Thomas. “Basic Economics”
- Conlin, Jonathan. “Great Economic Thinkers”
BHSC will provide students with a printed and bound Economics Reader with assigned readings.
For Government in the spring, BHSC is purchasing in bulk and billing families at cost for the following required book which students will receive in class on the first day of the semester and must bring and have ready to use at each class session:
- The U.S. Constitution: A Reader, Hillsdale College (needed for every class)
