Mr. Jason Chan
Instructor of Economics & Personal Finance
Jason Chan was born in Houston, Texas, and grew up in Sugar Land, where he developed an early aptitude for numbers and analytical thinking. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and Accounting from the University of Houston C.T. Bauer College of Business and later completed his Master of Science in Management with a concentration in Finance from the University of California, Irvine’s Paul Merage School of Business. Jason began his professional career as an audit associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, auditing major SEC registrants in the oil and gas industry, and went on to spend more than two decades in senior financial and executive roles across healthcare, residential services, and management consulting.
At Bluebonnet, Jason teaches Economics & Personal Finance, bringing both academic and real-world experience from a career spent working closely with business owners, analyzing financial data, and guiding organizations toward sounder decision-making. He has a particular passion for behavioral economics — the study of why people so reliably make irrational financial decisions — and believes that understanding the “why” behind economic choices is just as important as understanding the numbers themselves. He will readily tell you that his favorite economist is Thomas Sowell, which he acknowledges is a slightly unusual thing to have.
Jason lives in Sugar Land with his wife Amanda — whom he met in California and cleverly convinced to move back to Texas in 2010 — and their twin daughters, whom the family began homeschooling in 2024. The Chans are active members of Sugar Creek Baptist Church and love to travel, with cruising being a particular family favorite. Jason is excited to bring his passion for financial literacy and sound economic thinking to the next generation of learners.
