Mrs. Jessica Minton
Instructor of History & Geography
Jessica Minton has always loved encouraging and teaching others. In high school and college, she was drum major of the marching band and an instructor at leadership camps at UNLV and her alma mater, McNeese State University, where she graduated with her bachelor’s degree concentrating in liberal arts in 2008. Jessica has worked in a variety of jobs over the years, primarily in business and the arts. She taught voice lessons with Lake Charles Young Band Nation and was an ACTUAL rockstar who performed as the lead singer for the band Soul Vacation for the better part of a decade. She owned a portrait & wedding photography studio for several years, and she is currently the owner of Cypress Engineering & Development Group with her husband of 18 years, David.
When her oldest was nine, she took a leap of faith and obeyed God’s call to homeschool her three children. She traveled with them to India for two weeks to visit missionary friends living there. She tutored the Foundations class for a year with Classical Conversations. She reads as much as possible with her kids and for her own learning and enjoyment. As an avid genealogist and history buff, she has done research all over the country from the National Archives to dusty courthouse basements. She is a firm believer that by learning about God’s plan and His people, believers are loving the Lord with their MIND as Jesus commanded in Mark 12:30. She has been influenced by both classical and Charlotte Mason homeschool philosophies and has settled into a style that is as eclectic as she is.
In 2020 her hometown of Lake Charles, LA was hit by back-to-back hurricanes, devastating the community and destroying the dream home her family was building. But God was faithful! He brought them to Katy, TX and provided them with a school “family” at Bluebonnet.
